Valery Degtyarev was born in 1937 in Leningrad. He is professional photographer. He engaged in art photography since 1969. Actively participated in the work of photo clubs. He graduated from the Faculty of photojournalists at the Leningrad House of Journalists.
Valery is the member of the Russian Union of Photographers since 1992. He is participant of series of solo exhibitions («Subjective Petersburg», «St. Isaac» and others) and participant of more than 300 city, union and international exhibitions. Three times he was a laureate of All-Union art exhibitions. He is winner of the bronze medals at the international exhibitions «Europe 83», «Europe 93» in Spain. Awarded the bronze medal of VDNKh (Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy) for collection of works (Moscow, 1982), silver medal «Agidel» (Ufa, 1982), crystal medal «Contemporary World» (Grodno 1983). Prize-winner of international exhibitions: «Sea of peace and friendship» (German Democratic Republic, 1976), «Small format» (Warsaw, 1976), «Sweden – the Soviet Union» (Gothenburg, 1976), Salon VII of art photography «EXPO-97» (Poznan).
Awarded the title of the best photographer of 1995 by Saint Petersburg Union of photojournalists. Winner of the contests organized by the Petersburg house of journalists – «Northern Palmira 2002», « Northern Palmira 2003» – Grand Prix, also the winner of photographic competition «Golden objective» organized by Veliky Novgorod (prize of the mayor of the city of 2003), prize of Union of journalists of 2004.
Published in the journals «Soviet photo», «Subjects», «Photo Siberian success» and others. Author of several photo albums. Photos of Valery Degtyarev are in the collection of the State Russian Museum and private collections in the USA, Germany and Greece.
