Most of modern photo cameras allow almost anyone to create technically complete picture. However, not often such technical capabilities and computer processings contribute to the appearance of the qualities of art photography that transform this kind of creativity into the art. The photos by one of the leading Lithuanian photo artists Romualdas Rakauskas, especially his project «Blossom», is another important argument which confirms the existence of the Muse of PHOTOGRAPHY.
In the beginning of his career Rakauskas took photos of people’s everyday life and tried to blur the boundaries between reportage, genre photo and portrait by means of photography. However, gradually his creative manner became more spiritual and artistic in understanding of the world. The delicate lyricism of the photographer became his own, unique style. At the same time the philosophical position of Romualdas was determined: photos should help people to live, to clean the life from vulgarity and darkness, to bring joy and beauty, to fight for all progressive and new, actively assert everything new by all available visual means.
The creative position of Rakauskas is accurately reflected in the words of critic Grazyna Manetskayte: “The world in the lens of his camera rises above the ordinariness, and is filled with tenderness, love and fabulous silver glow. And all this is placed in the small square of the photo paper and goes far beyond it.”
Photographic lyricist Rakauskas binds his own hopes with the need of spirituality, which is necessary for us in the urban tomorrow.
