The boom of digital photography of last decades, its new, almost endless visual possibilities attracted the artists too. So Alexander Pilko, a designer and an artist, an amateur photographer who started shooting in the childhood, using the old FED camera, presented by his father, and he yielded to temptation by new technologies. He admits: «The last 5 – 7 years, I don’t know what I do more – painting or making photos».
Digital photo is a genie released from the bottle: he can easily drown you in the abyss of the experiments with the form, if just for one second, photographer forgets the simple truth – Photoshop is just a tool for realization of the author’s idea. It seems that Alexander Pilko managed to tame the “digital genie” and put him at service. The evidence of this are his portraits.
It is clear that Alexander Pilko has his own unique worldview. Heroes of his portraits are representatives of our reality and at the same time representatives of another space, another reality. As the result of successful connection of painting art and digital visualization, the author managed to create faces, which very well describe the «main idea», memorable images. It is interesting that Pilko very often uses scanned photographic film that gives special charm to his portraits.
«Face control by Alexander Pilko» is the first personal photo exhibition of the author.
