Dancing and fighting! Dancing as an expression of dreams, aspirations and experiences through motion. Fighting as an outlet of the instinct for self-preservation and survival. What do these two time-honoured forms of art have in common – with their multiplicity of insights on the world, occupying a similar space alongside philosophy, science and religion? Photographer Elena Zakhtser shares her visual response to these questions with her presentation of two series of works – one boxing series with the English title Tale Of Arms, and a dance series under the French name Danses. Esquisses. The author’s eloquent exegesis is revealed through the presentation of the material – both documentary and artistic, black-and-white and full-colour, realistic and impressionistic.
The movement and rest of the human body are imprinted by Elena Zakhtser with astonishing visual tonality, underscored with its own unique light-colour solution. Viewers are able to perceive these prints on something more than a merely visual level – they also ascend to a metaphysical symbolism.
Elena Zakhtser lives and works in Moscow. She graduated from the ‘Photo’ and Art-Photo’ classes of the VGIK School, from the studio of N.K.Zholudev. Elena is a Member of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia, a winner and laureate of such international competitions as PX3 (France), International Color Awards (USA), Black&White Spider Awards (USA), IPA (USA), PWP (USA), and Artweek (Russia).
Her works are displayed in both Russian and international photo-exhibitions. She uses pigment ink to print her works on Hahnemühle Digital FineArt archive-quality photo-papers.
