Valery Degtyarev is a professional photographer. His work experience is measured in decades, and all this time, simultaneously with the implementation of production tasks, he is taking photos, what is called, for the soul. Degtyarev is considered to be among the patriarchs of photography, who determined the face of Leningrad-Petersburg photography at the turn of XX-XXI centuries. Before our eyes, the global photography is undergoing technological changes, but still it does not prevent the Master to keep striving for search of new visual language. In his large portfolio there are photos, which may be called experimental and innovative. Among them, the pictures taken digitally.
However, according to the title of the exhibition, the works presented were made at the analogue period of Degtyarev’s creativity. Skillful use of toning solution of producing prints, black and white backlight of contrast photographic paper in the bath filled with water enabled the author to create photos original in color, with a special emotional mood, and in black-and-white photos to transmit his favorite tone of Saint-Petersburg of Fyodor Dostoyevsky.
Great work put in the creation of these photos, and its high aesthetic value, will undoubtedly be appreciated by connoisseurs of photography.
